As Head of Access & Learning at Historic Royal Palaces until 2015, and more recently acting as Head of Exhibitions at the British Museum, David brought together all the different strands of his working life.

Promoting learning, building one of the UK’s largest and leading heritage education services. Publishing, interpretation and display, leading both practically and philosophically. David is a director of the Heritage Education Trust, which promotes learning through the annual Sandford Awards for heritage and museum learning.

He has been an adviser for the Council of Europe, a member of a number of official and sector advisory bodies, and has been trustee of a number of heritage charities. David began his career in university academic life, and continues to research, write and lecture
